چکیده

Social commitments have long been recognized as an important concept for multiagent systems. We propose a rich formulation of social commitments that motivates an architecture for multiagent systems, which we dub spheres of commitment. We identify the key operations on commitments and multiagent systems. We distinguish between explicit and implicit commitments. Multiagent systems, viewed as spheres of commitment (SoComs), provide the context for the diierent operations on commitments. Armed with the above ideas, we can capture normative concepts such as obligations, taboos, conventions, and pledges as diierent kinds of commitments. In this manner, we synthesize ideas from multiagent systems, particularly that of social context, with ideas from ethics and legal reasoning, speciically that of directed obligations in the Hohfeldian tradition.

Extracting normative relationships from business contracts

The normative concepts offer a principled basis for engineering flexible multiagent systems for business and other crossorganizational settings. However, producing suitable specifications is nontrivial: the difficulty is an obstacle to the adoption of multiagent systems in industry. This paper considers normative relationships of six main types, namely, commitments (both practical and dialectic...

Commitments Among Autonomous Agents in Information-Rich Environments

Commitments are crucial to understanding and designing autonomous agents and multiagent systems. We propose a deenition of commitments that applies especially well to agents in information-rich applications, such as electronic commerce and virtual enterprises. Our approach has a number of important features, including { not gratuitously translating social concepts to psychological concepts { di...

Extending the BDI architecture with commitments

In this paper, we describe a novel agent architecture for normative multiagent systems which is based on multi-context systems. It models the three modalities of Rao and Georgeff’s BDI agents as individual contexts and adds a fourth one for commitments. This new component is connected to all other mental attitudes via two sets of bridge rules, injecting formulae into it and modifying the BDI co...

NorMAS-RE: a Normative Multiagent Approach to Requirements Engineering

In this paper we present a new model, called NorMAS-RE, for the requirements analysis of a system. NorMAS-RE is a new model based on the multiagent systems paradigm with the aim to support the requirements analysis phase of systems design. This model offers a structured approach to requirements analysis, based on conceptual models defined following a visual modeling language, called dependence ...
